Sean Dunn
PCC Deputy Manager
What I do at UK Biobank
As the Deputy Manager for the Participant Contact Centre (PCC) at UK Biobank I am responsible for ensuring that our team delivers a high quality service to UK Biobank's 500,000 participants, facilitating their involvement in our studies and answering any queries they may have. As the main point of contact for participants our work crosses paths with most aspects of the business, which leads to a day-to-day variation in the role requirements.
Why UK Biobank
One of the main reasons to work at UK Biobank is its culture. Everyone is approachable and available if you need support, evidenced by the open-plan office we have at Park Square. You will gain satisfaction from knowing that your role is contributing to the advancement of medical research and if you get the chance to interact with our lovely participants you will quickly observe how much they appreciate taking part in the studies.
Who am I?
Although I have been involved with UK Biobank for nearly 7 years at this point, the majority of that was spent working for Cardiff University. I started off as a contact centre advisor before moving into a Supervisor/Team Leader role. After gaining leadership experience I transferred in 2022 to UK Biobank's head office in Cheadle as the Deputy Manager which is a reflection of the progression opportunities available here.
Advice for prospective candidates
Don't be put off if you don't have a scientific or medical background. A medical research study can sound intimidating, but there are roles available here for people with a variety of skills and interests.
