What I do at UK Biobank
I lead the laboratory team who process, store and supply high quality biological samples for health research. A key element of my role is to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet the demand for samples from the research community. As a member of the Executive Management Team, I input to strategic decisions, particularly around the future collection and use of samples.
Why UK Biobank
UK Biobank works with a diverse range of scientists and companies racing to improve human health. As such, no two days are the same and work is always ongoing to find new ways to use the samples and data held by UK Biobank to progress understanding of disease. If you like a work environment that provides opportunity for innovation and want to feel like your work is making a difference then I would encourage you to apply for a role at UK Biobank.
Who am I?
I started my career in Forensic Science as a DNA Analyst having completed a degree in Forensic Science and MSc in DNA Profiling. My forensic background gave me a great foundation for working in a biobank because sample integrity and traceability is vital in both areas. I joined UK Biobank as a Laboratory Technician in 2012 seeking a change into a more health-focused role. I’ve worked in various Laboratory and Project Management roles within the UK Biobank laboratory team and have been in my current role since 2021.
