Assistant Laboratory Operational Manager

What I do at UK Biobank

As a Assistant Laboratory Operational Manager, my role is to lead and support the lab to deliver on our project goals and objectives.

This includes management of the projected workflows, resource planning, leading the supervisor team and liaising with other departments to tackle blockers on the processes we carry out, as well as a range of other activities that keep the lab running effectively and to a high standard of quality.

Why UK Biobank

The work UK Biobank carries out to support new scientific discoveries will change the future of healthcare across the globe. As well as being a company that has demonstrated its commitment to supporting its staff, it is an interesting place to work where a new challenge is always around the corner.

Who am I?

After completing an Undergraduate & Masters degree in Genetics, I carried out and gained a PhD in Molecular Biology. Whilst a career within Academia wasn't how I saw my future, I wanted to stay in a role that maintained those links and where I felt I could continue contributing to scientific discovery. UK Biobank was the perfect choice for this.

I joined the lab team as a technician during the Covid pandemic, supporting the innovative study UK Biobank was involved in. Since then, UK Biobank has supported my progression and development through the Laboratory Supervisor role and into my current role.
