Phil Raffo

As Head of Quality & Risk, I lead the organisation's Quality Management, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Information Governance and Assurance functions. My role is to ensure that UK Biobank continues to operate to the highest standards of quality, compliance and resilience while supporting world-leading scientific research. 

I work closely with colleagues across the organisation to strengthen our governance frameworks, oversee regulatory and certification activities, manage strategic and operational risks, and drive continual improvement.

I've spent over 15 years at UK Biobank, progressing through a variety of quality-focused roles to become Head of Quality & Risk. During that time, I've had the opportunity to help shape our governance and assurance frameworks, support major organisational change programmes and lead successful external accreditation and certification activities. 

What I enjoy most is working with people across the organisation to solve complex problems, improve the way we work and ensure we continue to provide researchers with a resource they can trust whilst maintaining engagement of our valuable participants.
